WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR WORKING WITH YOU?
Once you submit a quote request for your project, I will start working on your quote. The quote will detail the project request, pricing and payment, turnaround and delivery time. Some projects, like custom signage, may include a mock-up plus 1-2 rounds of revisions. Others, like place cards, envelopes, and escort cards, do not, which means the work can get started sooner. Once you agree to the quote, I will get started on the work. For larger projects, I will accept a 50% deposit at the start, and final 50% due at delivery. For smaller projects, payment is due prior to starting work. All along the way, I stay in communication with you to ensure you’re part of the process and know where everything stands.
HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I BOOK YOU?
It depends on the request and the quantity - I post turnaround times for each of my services, as do most calligraphers. That said, our busy season is late spring through early fall, so the sooner you reach out to a calligrapher, the better. We have to fit your project in amongst those already scheduled, so try to keep that in mind when reaching out for a quote.
For envelope calligraphy, if you want to send your invitations out 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding, then reach out to your calligrapher about 6-8 weeks prior to that date. For ~100 envelopes, it’ll take 1-2 weeks, and if there are other orders in the pipeline, then you need to get yours scheduled quickly.
For other services like escort tiles, place cards, and signage, again depending on the quantity needed, 6-8 weeks prior is best, but 4-6 weeks out can be doable. See below for information on rush requests.
WHAT IF I NEED A RUSH ORDER?
Having planned a wedding of my own, I know how quickly important deadlines and details can sneak up on you. Rush requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. If I can fit your project in between other existing projects without delaying delivery dates, then I will take on your rush order. Rush order fee is the greater of $50 or 15% of order total. Please refer to individual service pages for rush timelines. When you complete your order form, be sure to include your deliver by date (the date you need to receive your order by) for me to make a determination about a rush request.
CAN I SEND YOU EXAMPLES OF WORK THAT I LIKE?
If you have something specific in mind, you can send me examples of work to demonstrate elements you like, but I will not replicate or plagiarize other artists’ work. For example, if you show me a sign with a floral design you like, I will come up with a floral design of my own to compliment your style. That said, it’s important for me to know your style and aesthetic, so examples are certainly welcome. Just keep in mind that you’re hiring a particular calligrapher because you like their unique style.
ARE YOU ABLE TO SOURCE MATERIALS OR DO I NEED TO SEND YOU THE MATERIALS TO LETTER ON?
I prefer my clients source and ship me their preferred envelopes. This ensures you're happy with the color, quality, and size, as you have selected them yourself. However, if a client needs me to source envelopes, I order through Envelopes.com. I only ask that you select the size, style, and color you like, and I will have them delivered to me for lettering.
I am proud to provide an array of popular and beautiful tile options including white and black marble tiles, clear acrylic tiles, and even gray arabesque lantern tiles. However, if you have something specific in mind, you are welcome to order and ship your preferred tiles to me directly. For a $50 sourcing fee, I will source tiles for you. Review the order details on the escort tile page for more information.
I work with a preferred paper vendor for my paper place cards (where you can pick as many colors as you wish!). If you have place cards you would like to provide to me, I will gladly letter on those.
If you prefer an unconventional medium like leaves, citrus fruits, ornaments, or anything your mind imagines, I will gladly work with you on that! (I love creative clients!) Sourcing fees may apply. Contact me for details.
I primarily work with acrylic signs, which I source myself and factor the cost of the materials into the price.
My husband does woodworking, so I can also provide wood signs at the request of the client.
I currently do not rent out mirrors or chalkboards, however, for local clients, I will letter on yours if you'd like. Email for me for complete a price quote for more details.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEED TO CANCEL AN ORDER?
If the work has not begun yet (i.e. design set-up, lettering, etc.), and I have not yet purchased any of the materials needed to complete the order, I will issue you a 100% refund. If work has begun and/or materials have been purchased, then I will issue a refund minus the cost of any materials and/or labor. Contact me for more details if you need to cancel an order.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON'T LIKE MY ORDER?
I always strive to ensure my clients are thrilled with their orders. As such, I communicate with you along the way, sending mockups and/or photos along the way to ensure you're happy with the progress. Therefore, I cannot offer refunds on any custom orders. However if you are not satisfied, contact me and we can work together on an amicable resolution. I want you to be happy, and for the project to be a fair process for both of us.
WHY IS CALLIGRAPHY SO EXPENSIVE?
This is a common question, and believe me, I get it. Calligraphy is expensive! But the long and short is that calligraphy and hand-lettering require a lot of time and a heavy level of effort to produce. As such, the artist needs to be compensated for their time, as well as the expense of the materials needed to produce your project. Also, depending on their level of experience, calligraphers may charge higher prices because they have higher demand and the ability to only accept clients with higher budgets. That said, there is a calligrapher for almost every budget.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED WITH CALLIGRAPHY?
Ever since I was a little girl, I was obsessed with handwriting. I would write on everything around the house...everything. Junk mail, old magazines, my sister's Steve Urkel postcard she got from the Jaleel White Fan Club (#90sKids).
Realizing the scribbling wouldn't cease, my mom bought me a calligraphy set for Christmas when I was 13. And I've been hooked ever since!
In January 2017, I taught myself modern calligraphy by reading calligraphy books and watching YouTube videos. I love and primarily work with pointed pen, glass pen pens, and brush pens.
WHAT IS THE BEST TACO YOU'VE EVER HAD?
Hands down, the crispy tacos at The Sandbar in Santa Barbara, CA are the best I've ever had. I seriously dream about these tacos. Somehow they made a shell that's both crispy and soft...it's almost a little fluffy. Every ingredient is the freshest you've ever tasted, and the cotija cheese crumbles are to die for.
